Announcing the Second International Thornton Wilder Conference to be held June 11-13, 2015 at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. We are interested in paper proposals on all aspects of Wilder’s work (and its relation to other writers’ work) as a dramatist, novelist, screenwriter, librettist, essayist, lecturer, teacher, and scholar; and from any critical perspective (e.g., gender studies, queer theory, classical studies, post-structuralist theory (e.g. New Historicism, Marxist literary theory, Reader Response), American studies, religion and literature); and from graduate students as well as established scholars. The official call for papers will be forthcoming later this summer. In addition to paper presentations, we are inviting renowned theatre artists, writers, scholars, and critics to speak; Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel is already confirmed. Inexpensive housing will be available on campus; Newport also has a variety of hotels from which to choose. Salve Regina University is located in the Ochre Point area of Newport, which is part of the city’s historic district. The campus borders on the famous Cliff Walk overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The conference is sponsored by the Thornton Wilder Society and the English Department of Salve Regina University.
